Starting 2007, The Reflective engineer has been an annual seminar series for engineering students with the main objective to get students to think about their future professional role and how they want to use the knowledge they acquire. With The Reflective Engineer we attempt to investigate the responsibility the engineer has for global sustainable development.
We want the seminar series to encourage an engineering approach which attempts to understand more than just the technical dimension of a problem. We hope the seminar series leads to
- knowledge about the interplay between technology, environment and sustainable development.
- reflections regarding the engineering role. What does it mean to become a “good” engineer?
- interest to become active, for example through master field studies or to as a volunteer.
